Demi Lovatos Simply Complicated YouTube Documentary Generates Over 7 Million Views

Since its debut on Oct. 17, Demi Lovato‘s YouTube documentary “Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated” has generated over 7 million views across 195 countries. Bonus content and trailers released over weeks leading up to the premiere have garnered an additional 8 million views.
“I am especially proud of this documentary because it gave me a chance to tell my story and truth in the most intimate and personal way, without a single hesitation,” Lovato said in a statement.
The full-length documentary offers an inside look at transformative moments in Lovato’s life, coinciding with her sixth studio album “Tell Me You Love Me,” which was released Sept. 29. “Simply Complicated” chronicles stories of Lovato getting sober while being a judge on the “X Factor,” her battles with substance abuse and an eating disorder, and her personal relationships. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the film runs at an hour and 18 minutes.
“Her unwavering honesty and authenticity throughout the filming of the documentary was incredible to watch, and the reaction from fans around the world has been filled with love, support and admiration,” said Susanne Daniels, global head of original content at YouTube.

In a conversation at Cannes Lions this summer, Lovato noted how her perspective has changed since starting out in the industry.
“If you asked me a year ago, I would have said within the next five years I would be married, starting a family,” Lovato said. “That all changed, which I touch on in my documentary. I don’t know what I want the next five years to look like. I’m still figuring that out. I love music, I want to make music and tour. I want to dive back into acting at some point.”
